The “Kongreso ng Kabataan” which is the special assembly of the young people of STPPACE was convened by its annual (regional) conference UMYF president Angelica Justiniano (Jesus Reigns UMC) to define its stand for a peace with justice issue. It also adopted the “Just Peace League” as their organization that will pursue peace with justice ministries.

The assembly affirmed the issues related to farmers especially about the agrarian reform as the main focus of their advocacy. A program committee was created to initiate plans and programs to pursue advocating for the farmers. Rev. Nazzer Oliveros, chair of the STPPACE Board of Church and Society reminded them that they need to understand first their situation before they can offer some help in a form of ministry and before they could stand for them. Rev. Joseph Flores (Atimonan UMC) was elected by the assembly as their adviser.

The Districts of Laguna and of Quezon also reported their District advocacies. Quezon District young people chooses to advocate for the children and the environment. Laguna District youth stand also for the environment.

Included in the program is a feeding program for the children in the community. About 100 children were served. They were taught stories about Jesus, taught some songs and make some group activities.

The “Kongreso ng Kabataan” is a joint project of the Council of Youth Ministries headed by Rev. Mervin Anthony Montano and the Board of Church and Soceity a recipient of the Peace with Justice Grant to raise and mobilize the young people for peace with justice ministries. It was held last May 19 – 20, 2011 at the Grace in Faith Temple UMC at Tayabas Quezon. Included in the event was Biblical Theological Reflection on Peace with Justice which was presented by Rev. Dexter Ceballos (Pacita UMC) and a lecture overview of the UMC Social Principles ¬†was presented by Rev. Joseph Flores.

The STPPACE through the Peace with Justice Grant of the General Board of Church and Soceity of the United Methodist Church and with the partnership of the Union Theological Seminary will hold “Peace with Justice Seminar/Forum” on November 10 – 12, 2010 at Bahay Alumni of the Union Theological Seminary.

It aims to educate the churches about the church’s prophetic role and about peace with justice ministry of the United Methodist Church and to know how to respond to the issues related to it in the region using the Social Principles as guide.

It also aims to organize a group called “Just Peace League” which will be the advocacy center of the STPPACE for peace with justice. A same forum/seminar will be also held for the young people entitled “Kongreso ng Kabataan” or Congress of the Youth which will be held in summer of 2011.
